John Hughes is one of the city's busiest vocal coaches and is seen frequently as audition accompanist for Mirvish Productions, the Stratford and Shaw Festivals, Disney and many other theatre companies. John played over 800 auditions for the Mirvish production of The Sound of Music and was a rehearsal pianist for the show. He also appeared on the CBC TV show How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? Prior to that he appeared at Stage West Mississauga as pianist for the Canadian première of Mid-Life: The Crisis Musical. He accompanied some of the master classes on both seasons of the CBC TV show Triple Sensation Other credits as musical director/pianist include Dads: The Muscial at Theatre Orangeville, Damien Atkins= Real Live Girl which played Toronto, London and Winnipeg, Guys and Dolls, A Grand Night For Singing, Me and My Girl and Lady Be Good. As pianist, his theatrical credits include Forever Plaid, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Hello, Dolly (both at Stage West), 42nd Street, Anne of Green Gables, Dames At Sea and South Pacific. Other credits include Sunset Boulevard, Falsettos, Nunsense II, Fiddler On the Roof and Closer Than Ever. In 2004, he was a rehearsal pianist for Guys and Dolls and Anything Goes at the Stratford Festival. He has worked as a coach/accompanist at the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts in Toronto since 1993.
